To start, imageready is a very tricky program to get used to, most people will add a pixel at some spot on the same layer while making a new frame, and will go crazy trying to figure out why it added that dot on the previous frame.
ImageReady will react tho to numerous changes, the most used modification is blending option effects, Moving a layer with a transparent background, and turning layers off and on on different frames.
Most animations are done by using the tween button. Go to |window->Animation| if you do not see the button This button will make a slow or fast shift between the movement of a layer on a frame by the use of the move tool. The tween button will be used about everytime in my animation tutorials, unless you want to do frame by frame what could take 2 seconds with the tween button.
Tween can also make hand made animation seem smoother, by "pixel blending" the animation.
To open imageready and use it to animate a psd file, first, open photoshop, when in photoshop, open the file you want to animate if it is not yet open, then press the Jump to imageReady button, located at the bottom of your tool bar.
The button to the right of tween will create new frames, remember, that each frame does not have its own layer. Frames are striclty for animation, hense, if you make a dot on a layer, all other frames will have that dot, in some scenarios, you can highlight all previous frames, and press the "hide layer" box located in your layers menu.
These Basics may seem quite confusing, but in the actual animation tutorials, you will begin to understand them, and you will learn how to madify layers and blending options the correct way.
